MEDIA RELEASE - A VALUABLE MORNING FOR TEAM VIP PETFOODS’ KLARK QUINN

Team VIP Petfoods’ youngest player has seen to it that his home-track Carrera Cup round four campaign kicked-off in fast form today, by putting down one of his best Carrera Cup results ever during the first day of proceedings at Queensland Raceway.

Klark Quinn says a ‘very valuable morning’ with Team VIP Petfoods’ lead driver and former V8 Supercars competitor Craig Baird deserved the credit for his solid run in this morning’s first session, which saw him time second for the run only .0110 of a second behind current series leader Alex Davison.

“About two weeks ago Craig and I made a trip out here and spent a few hours discussing the circuit and the car as well as tactics and race strategies,” said Klark Quinn.

“It boiled down to be a very valuable morning for me – which I think showed in today’s first practice session.

“Stepping in for that first run was like I had just stepped out of the car that morning - I was in the same frame of mind, prepared and ready to go.”

Unfortunately for Klark, this feeling did not translate to the second of today’s two practice sessions; with a change of tyres unexpectedly seeing it all go wrong for the twenty-five year-old.

“We changed the tyres believing the set we were bolting on were of the same quality as those we had just run,” said Klark Quinn.

“But for some reason something was not quite right, which saw the second session not go to plan for me.

“Tomorrow we will have brand new tyres, so with the playing field levelled once again I will be on the hunt to get back to this morning’s form.”

While Klark was surging ahead, the man responsible at least in part for his improved form watched from the sidelines, only joining his teammates later in the morning for the second and final practice session.

Team VIP Petfoods' Craig Baird seemed no worse off for missing the first run - posting the fourth fastest time only 0.4131 of a second behind the session leader Marcus Marshall.

“I am confident in the car, in myself, and in the circuit, and so decided to skip the first practice session today in preference of conserving the tyres to come out in the second session on a cleaner track and put down a really strong time,” said Baird.

“I was able to come out and do that, placing the fourth fastest time behind Marcus Marshall, Alex Davison and David Reynolds.

“We won’t be making any changes ahead of tomorrow apart from tyres, as with all the data we have under our belts we are confident the set-up we have chosen is the right one and look forward to the tackling the rest of the weekend.”

Team VIP Petfoods boss Tony Quinn, echoed these sentiments after the second session today.

“Queensland Raceway is a pretty simple track, and as our home track we have plenty of data and track time at our disposal, so we are confident in our preparation ahead of the weekend,” said Tony Quinn.

“As we always do, we will just be putting our heads down and giving everything we have got to see what happens when we come out the other side.”

Tomorrow’s Carrera Cup round four action will see the Team VIP Petfoods trio take to the track for qualifying at 8.25am, before they grid up for race one at 1.15pm.
