V.I.P. Racing News - Carrera Cup Round 2 Wakefield Park

Team VIP Petfoods lead driver Craig Baird completed a clean sweep of wins at Round 2 of the 2006 Wright Patton Shakespeare Carerra Cup at Wakefield Park, to lead the championship by 72 points.

After qualifying second for Round 2 of the cup, Craig continued his early season form to win Race 1, which featured the first ever compulsory pit stop in the Carrera Cup history.

Early morning fog caused the race to stay under the safety car until lap 5, before cars entered the pit stop that saw the Team VIP Petfoods crew perform some tidy changes. The race finished with Klark Quinn in 13th position, and Tony Quinn in 21st.

Race 2 again saw Craig in 1st, with Klark performing consistent lap times that saw him at his day’s best finishing in 8th position.

Race 3 was the clincher for Team VIP Petfoods, with Craig easily taking the chequered flag to put him comfortably in 1st place of the championship on 354 points.

“It turned out to be a great day especially for the Team VIP Petfoods crew who gave me a great pit stop and set up the day nicely,” said Craig after the race.

“It’s nice to be out the front, and to be able to win all three races today, it will give us a good point’s advantage over Jimmy (Richards) and Alex (Davison), even though there is still a long way to go.”
